Parnas Kohlberg Trio |
Parnas/Kohlberg TrioThe three charismatic young artists of the Parnas/Kohlberg Trio met while Yaron was on tour in the United States following his 2nd prize win at the 2007 Cleveland International Piano Competition. Madalyn and Cicely attended one of his concerts and were “stunned” at the beauty and artistry of Yaron’s playing. So before Yaron returned home to his native Israel, these three musicians dedicated a day to reading chamber music. And at the end of the day, they all agreed there was a magic in their music – an intuitive sympatico – which they unanimously felt committed to pursuing. The Parnas/Kohlberg Trio was thus established. During that day of playing chamber works, the music-making took all possible formations: piano trios, string sonatas with piano, string duos, and unaccompanied solo works. This made sense, as they each were already established as soloists. Both Madalyn and Cicely had performed dozens of times as guest soloists with orchestra and had won numerous top prizes in solo competitions. In addition, the Parnas sisters were working on their second duo parnas CD, having just won 1st prize in international chamber music competition at Carnegie Hall. Yaron had appeared as soloist in famous halls all over the world including Moscow’s Kremlin, the Kennedy Center and Severance Hall in US, Beethovenhalle in Bonn, Salle Cortot and Les Invalides in Paris, Bellas Artes in Mexico City, and the New Opera House in Oslo. He had triumphed at numerous international competitions including the Parnassos in Mexico, the Shostakovich in Hanover, Tivoli in Copenhagen, and the Grieg in Oslo among many others. Therefore, it made sense for the Parnas/Kohlberg Trio to stretch the limits of typical piano trio concerts and open the doors to exciting and dynamic concerts where any formation could be presented to make for remarkable programming possibilities. With Yaron living in Israel, and Madalyn and Cicely in the US, the Parnas/Kohlberg Trio has had to surmount the difficulties that such a great geographical separation causes. Yaron began travelling to the US yearly for short concert tours until 2011, when a 30-day tour began in the US and continued in France, Germany, and Israel. Numerous concerts were performed in all four countries, and the tour included a live recording at WQXR’s studio in New York City. Scheduling for summer 2012 and spring 2013 tours is now in process with highlights including the Lachine Music Festival in Montreal, Tannery Pond Concerts in the Berkshires, and a return to Le Poisson Rouge, where their original appearance earned an enthusiastic review in the New York Times. |
